There was one who was only 25 when he left us.
Now there's another who's 29 who left us.
In oncology, no matter how much you wanna draw a line between work and personal life, you'll just feel depressed when your closer patient left you.
The point when you feel no mather how much chemotherapy they're going through is just so useless?

He was the first one I resusitated after a chemo reaction.
He was the first one who called me opera because of my eyeshadow.
He was the first one who gave me a doll.

hey boy, i prayed so hard that you can still live on, never will i expect i got a news saying you left us.
you left.
Remembered that we talked through phone on my birthday.
it was really nice hearing your voice.
And calling back the ward, and you asking, "june eh?"
its really sweettt.

To haemato ward, seeing the confused you, and of course i know you wouldnt want to be in this state.
To ICU, seeing you intubated, heartache.
Drawing the curtain, seeing the pale you lying in that cold and empty room, i almost broke down.

Alex, you made me realised life is just so short for us to regret.
You made me realised I have to cherish every each moment of my life.
You made me realised staying positive is the best outta everything.

I gave you so many times of platelets and blood transfusions?
I see you almost every single day for like more than 4 months?
We chatted so so many times.

This time round, i just hope your girlfriend will be good without you. at least you gave her good memories. She was the one who walked through this whole process with you, and now you leaving her behind, i just hope she'll be fine, really really fine.

I had a small gathering before my night shift, and yes i'm really a frequent night nurse. i see nights two times a month. and time flies, i'm in this oncology for like more than 8 months? :)

had blackjack, cant run away from new year yes?
tehheeee, no win no lose.
its wei ren's place again, as usual.
and as usual, those teasing.

some gamblers for a night. and i dragged my feet for the killer night shift.

And before my third night, its time for some gathering again??
yes again! :) I dont know why i got that much energy to wake up early and meet them?!
just so good to be them as we know each other since 10???
i got 4 nights in total, but who cares?
friends come first. wheeee. peace!

and the last night ended with blood transfusion and chemo.
its still busy during night. and there's no free time in oncology.
and not to mention to pause for a moment to talk to our patients.

and when this lawyer patient who cried infront of me, i feel it. and where's all my time for the patients.
had breakfast with jolene and joanne. and headed hospital to talk to him.
minus off my tiredness, i stayed till 12 pm to persuade him not to give up treatment and fight for his own life. 60 years of your life, the more you should how to appreciate and cherish it well.

headed to visit my ex-patient next. to ward 77. joanne warned me that he might not recognise??
and i was saying he will. he was with us for like 5 months?? and he's the most irriating one who will disturb me with the opera eyes?

wanted to give him a surprise. calling loud to him when i stepped into the room.
single room. and what i saw was, he was already unconscious???
brain infection?
i dont know. the 29 years old boy who will walk around disturbing the nurses, is now unconscious?
how depressing can that be??

one ronnie is enough, another one?
Just want you Alex to really get well soon and be discharge.

you did it again. like after 3 months.
i wish i have someone who really really understand me, listening to me like how she used to do.

My 22 party started awesomely with them.
Primary, secondary, poly, working colleagues and my dearest 2 clubbing girlfriend. Thanks for being there for me whenever i need you guys, making me my life really that awesome.

Shall blog a lil of my Hong Kong Trip and this time round with Rita and Kai ling yes.

And off we go, we took the Singapore Airline.
Cool shit, awesome flight. and 4 hours, we got to Hong Kong!

And not kidding, we pulled luggage to shop at citygate???
Took the train, and went to this shopping centre and shop!
Supermarket, i love it when i head to other country.
when i was in batam too? so excited.
To the restaurant too?
Whenever I see my Dim Sum, i will go mad i tell you.

Back to hotel, throw the luggage, out we go.
Mong kok was the best I can say.

And the second day, we headed Disneyland.
Love the parade, gawd.
it was mad awesome. like a small kid, got so happy to see all the characters???
every photo, spot clearly.
we got our eyecandy behind the photo. hahaha, we are the mad girls who love to look at hot guys eh. especially at Hong Kong. tehheeeee!
A must must go place!

Get changed, dressed up to layers and to the peak.

4 nights. was horror.

the 3 of us only, and yes wtf.

4 rooms, 16 patients.

the diapers, you just cant throw everything to your junior

and of course the in charge have to do it too.

normally, 11 pm the in charge can sit down and write all the reports. not this round of night tho.

you have to take all the patients parameters before you can sit. diaper rounds, and all crappy christmas light call bells.

oh my, freak grumpy.

4 days in charge, each day 8 reports. write until damn freakin' sian.

3 of us, the team work still there. helpin here and there.

and i shouted at the female patient.

maximum ward management, and all the more i should be nice to her.

cant move. and there she press the call bell like 20 times a min.

no kidding, 20 times i guess.

shouting water water water. hello. give her already spit out, and so what you want.

break the bowl, throw controller, shout.

my fucking god.

testing my patience.

till 630 am, ending shift, cant tolerate all the shitty stuffs.

inside the room, i shouted. real loud. and its the first ever time.

"water water water, i myelf never even got the time to drink water, give you already you spit out and STOP PRESSING THE CALL BELL!"

all 3 patients looked.

dont care if you are gonna complaint. you can prolly get a private nurse if you want 24 hrs attention. but not in this cancer ward. i fuck busy to the max.

black face again. till the 3rd night. telling my staffs, dont care, call someone to stay with her or i am gonna plug out her call bell.

finally forth night, relatives stayed.

After like 3 days not stepping into my ward, I got a shock once again.
Bed 1, so ill-looking.
Bed 2, unresponsive.
Bed 3, chemotherapy.
Bed 4, unresponsive.

This is just one of my room.
Not to mention my other room.

They're mean enough to throw me to be in Charge right after my off days.

And I only know one patient outta my 8 patients.

I am nursing my reports more than my patients. And I got tons of reports to write!

document the every crappy stuffs, just to cover my backside yes?
Indeed tiring. I'm prepared to pack at least one patient today. God bless me.

Didnt have the time to blog like previously.

Trying to draw a line between work and personal life.

As for work, I dont think I got the chance to be junior, I am forever in charge already I guess.

Wearing the staff nurse uniform and being an in charge is really much different from student being an in charge.

Communicating with Doctors.
I think I just love to call every doctors's phone and remind them what they are supposed to do.

My very first close patient left.
The very young him, leaving his beautiful wife and two young children.
Remembering that time, he, holding my hand telling me we really click well.
No matter how busy I am, he's always the one asking if I have eaten for that shift.
And always be the one telling me to slow down my pace.

Asking if I want to be his god-daughter. I really wish I was.

Just one off day I headed back,
He became restless and lethargic.
I was like............. kinda shocked?
He was perfectly fine when I left after the last shift.
Cancer, you're a real terrorist for all my patients.
And you're really torturing every single one, especially the family members.

His wife, the no. one best wife ever.
Always with him,
Putting my hand over her shoulder after my shift, telling her to be strong.
And she told me, "He is really strong"
Looking at him, my tears.
I nearly teared, and you know we're the nurses.
We are not supposed to.

1st July, he left.
I wasn't there. Better not. I think all the nurses will cry because he's really the best patient ever.

The every moment with him was really precious.

Monday...Pt died.

Tuesday... Pt. died.

Wednesday... Pt died.

Admitted him, chatted with him, and he died on Monday.

Fed him lunch, putting medicine one by one into his mouth, hear him complaining how much pain he is having, He died when I sponge him.

If only I did not sponge him, he might have survive for the next few hours??

But I know, that next few hrs wont be good for him tho.

A dying patient, definitely dont look good.

I was the only staff nurse, bringing 2 students in.

The only one who saw his last breath.

My very first day of work.
Its not attachment.
Its not a part time job.
Its not something that I'm unfamiliar with.

It's my first full time job, as a Singapore General Hospital Nurse!
The green strip which is on my uniform made me felt quite stressful with it.
No more blue-white uniform!
I kinda miss that uniform tho.

The very first day of work,
I love it when your phone kept vibrating,
And all with the same messages?

"All the best!"
Yea, Gotta from all my lovely friends.

Stepped out Outram Mrt Station,
and nice to see all the familiar faces.
Hearing them calling my name with that high-pitched voice, I feel so good.

That feeling is like, "Hey, I'm so back!"

Sitting with all my new friends in the patho lab,
With all the messages from my Sgh friends,
"I SAW YOU!!"
"WHERE ARE YOU?"
"YOU LOOK NICE IN UNIFORM!"

Turning behind, looking for them frantically i guess
And yes, miss them ttm!

And yea, I got hooked on being a teacher.
Srsly, It was really a mad good experience.

But true enough to say, teaching is rather special.

I didnt went for the very last class,

I vomited 10 times throughout the night.
